A Curious Idea, Beautifully Made
Beaver Chic was born from a love of forgotten luxury, fascinating history, and the belief that beautiful materials deserve a second life.
I've always been drawn to exceptional craftsmanship. My career in fashion took me from buying offices in New York and London to some of the world's most inspiring retail spaces, where I developed an appreciation for timeless design, exquisite materials, and the stories that garments carry.
Years later, I found myself collecting vintage fur.
Not because it was trendy—but because I couldn't bear to see these beautifully made pieces disappear. Many had been handcrafted decades ago by skilled furriers using techniques that are becoming increasingly rare. Hidden away in closets and estate sales across Quebec, they represented a remarkable chapter of fashion history.
I began rescuing them one by one.
As my collection grew, so did a question: how could these extraordinary materials be appreciated again without pretending they were something they weren't?
Then I stumbled upon one of history's most curious fashion accessories—the merkin.
Originally worn centuries ago for both practical and theatrical reasons, the merkin has lived an unexpectedly colourful life through history. Equal parts historical curiosity and conversation piece, it was simply too fascinating to remain forgotten.
That was the spark.
What if this wonderfully peculiar piece of history could be reimagined through modern craftsmanship, using reclaimed vintage fur that already exists?
Today, every Beaver Chic merkin is handcrafted in my Quebec atelier from carefully selected vintage fur coats and fashion pieces. No new fur is produced for Beaver Chic. Instead, each piece celebrates the artistry, beauty, and character of materials that deserve another chapter.
No two merkins are exactly alike. Every hide has its own texture, colour, and personality, making each creation as unique as the person who wears it.
Beaver Chic is a little bit history, a little bit luxury, and a little bit mischief.
It's for those who appreciate impeccable craftsmanship, love discovering the unexpected, and believe that life is simply more interesting when it doesn't take itself too seriously.
Thank you for being part of this wonderfully curious journey.
